# Return deadline calculator

Changed your mind about an online order? Find the last day to cancel or send it back, and put a reminder in your calendar.

## How the days are counted

- **UK:** under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, the cancellation period for goods ends 14 days after the day they come into your physical possession (or that of someone you named, other than the carrier). Once you have told the seller, you then have 14 days to send the goods back.
- **EU:** the Consumer Rights Directive gives 14 days from the day you take physical possession. The delivery day isn't counted, and under Regulation 1182/71 a period whose last day is a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday ends at the end of the next working day.
- **Shop policies** often allow longer, such as 30 days; the policy's wording decides where counting starts.

Working days skip Saturdays, Sundays and any holidays you list. The reminder file opens in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook and alerts you two days before.

This is general information, not legal advice. Some goods, such as personalised or perishable items, don't come with a cancellation right.

## Questions

**Does the day the parcel arrived count?**

Not for the UK and EU 14-day periods: counting starts the next day. Untick "Day 1 is the day after the start date" for a policy that counts the start date itself.

**What if my order arrives in several parcels?**

Under the EU directive, when goods ordered together arrive separately, the period runs from the day the last one arrives. Use that date as the start.

**Is this legal advice?**

No. It helps you count days. Check the seller's terms, and for a dispute ask a consumer advice body in your country.
